Tuesday Talent Tip: Handling the Dreaded Conflict Question Like a Pro

"How do you handle conflict?"

Cue the awkward pause, nervous shuffle, and sudden fascination with the ceiling tiles.
Let’s be honest, no one loves answering this question. But there’s a good reason why it’s asked:
Employers want to see how you navigate challenges, work with different personalities, and keep cool when things get tricky. It's not about whether you've had conflict (spoiler alert: we all have!), it's about how you respond to it.

A great answer includes three things:
🔹 A real example - not just a theory.
🔹 A calm, positive tone - no blaming or dramatic storytelling, thanks.
🔹 A focus on the solution - what you did to fix it, learn from it, or move forward.

Example:
"In a previous role, a colleague and I had different ideas about how to approach a project. Instead of letting frustration build, I asked if we could have a quick catch-up to talk it through. We shared our perspectives, found some common ground, and combined the best parts of both ideas. The project turned out stronger because of it, and we built a better working relationship, too."
Tip for candidates: Practice your story beforehand so you can deliver it naturally, with confidence.

Tip for hiring managers: Listen for emotional intelligence, problem-solving, and willingness to collaborate, not just a "perfect" answer.

At KoruTalent, we believe a little honesty and a lot of grace go a long way - in interviews, and in life.

So next time that conflict question pops up, just remember: it’s not a trap, it’s an opportunity to show your strength under pressure!
