One of the most frustrating things we see in international recruitment is candidates missing out on opportunities because they simply aren't prepared and document ready.
Many people start looking for overseas jobs without researching the visa process, understanding the requirements for their occupation or gathering the documents they'll need.
Then an opportunity comes along. An employer wants to move quickly. A recruiter asks for documentation. The visa process begins. And suddenly everyone is waiting.
Frustration grows. Stress levels rise. Timelines slip.
In many cases, it could have been avoided with proper preparation.
Every country has different requirements. Depending on where you're going and what occupation you're in, you may need:
- A valid passport and identification documents
- Unabridged Birth & Marriage certificate
- Valid Police clearances
- English language testing such as IELTS
- Trade certificates, qualifications and transcripts
- Skills assessments such as TRA or other occupation-specific assessments
- Previous and Current Employment evidence including contracts, job descriptions and tax records
- Professional registrations or licences (Make sure what the requirements are for each country)
- Marriage, name change or divorce documentation where applicable
Some of these documents can take weeks. Others can take months.
The candidates who successfully move overseas are the ones who have done their research, understand the process and start preparing long before they receive a job offer. Preparation and information are your biggest advantages.
If working overseas is part of your future plans, don't wait until an opportunity appears before you start getting ready for it.
The best opportunities often go to those who are ready when they arrive.
