Or sometimes... Nothing at all.
Just a CV.
Now let me ask you something: If you were employing someone you've never met before, what impression would that leave?
Here's the reality that many candidates don't realise. Before we've read your CV... Before we've looked at your qualifications... Before we've considered your experience... We've already had our first interaction with you.
That email is your Five Second Interview.
It tells us whether you've taken the time to present yourself professionally. It tells us whether you've paid attention to detail. It tells us whether this opportunity mattered enough for you to make an effort.
This isn't about perfect spelling. It isn't about using fancy words.
Some of the best tradespeople, engineers and production leaders we've placed would tell you that writing emails isn't their greatest strength.
But every one of them knew how to make a good first impression.
Think about it this way. When we recommend someone to one of our clients, we're putting our own reputation alongside yours. We want to be able to say with confidence, "This is someone worth meeting."

Before you send your next application, take one extra minute:
- Add a subject line.
- Address the recruiter by name if you know it.
- Tell us which role you're applying for.
- Write two or three sentences introducing yourself and why you're interested.
- Make sure we know important information such as your VISA status etc.
- Double-check that you've attached the correct documents.
That's all.
It takes less than a couple of minutes, but it can completely change the first impression you leave.
Remember this: Your CV tells us what you've done. Your communication tells us how you'll represent yourself and your future employer.
