This week we had something happen that we cannot stay quiet about.
Several people phoned us in a panic, having been approached by a company calling itself KoruRecruitment. It sounds almost identical to KoruTalent and we understand completely why it was confused for us. This company asked people to download an app and share personal information and it left good, hopeful jobseekers feeling used and unsettled when they realised, this was all a big lie!
And then there was the story that has genuinely stayed with us. A candidate paid someone eight thousand dollars to be made "paper ready" for a move to Australia or New Zealand. The person who took that money already knew about a medical condition that would never allow him to work here. They took his hard earned savings and shattered his dreams. He was devastated!
We need to say this as plainly as we can. You should never pay a recruitment consultant to get you a job. Not for paperwork, not for introductions, not for promises. If someone is asking for money before they will help you find work, that is your sign to stop and check.
So please, before you trust anyone with your details or your money, do a little homework. Look up the company. Check their website and their LinkedIn page properly, not just the name someone gave you over the phone. If someone tells you they work for a company, phone that company directly using the details on their official website and ask them to confirm it.
Ask for referrals. Speak to people who have actually used that recruiter before. A trusted partner will have a track record and people who are happy to vouch for them.
Be wary of anyone who wants a large payment upfront, or who pressures you to act immediately because you might "miss out." Genuine opportunities do not disappear the moment you ask a sensible question.
And be cautious of any guarantee. A good recruiter can open a door and make an introduction, but the decision on who gets the job will always sit with the employer, not with us.

Someone who sees you as a person, not a payment. Looking for work is hard enough without having to wonder if the person on the other end of the phone is genuine.
