One of the hardest phone calls we make is telling a great candidate they weren't successful. We know how much hope goes into every application. We also know that hearing "no" can make you question yourself.
But here's something we'd like you to remember: Not getting the job doesn't always mean you weren't the right candidate.
Sometimes another candidate could start sooner. Sometimes they already had all their documents ready. Sometimes they had experience that was a slightly better fit for what the business needed at that moment.
Often, it's the little things that make the difference.
Here are a few ways you can make sure you're ready when opportunity knocks:
- Keep your CV up to date.
- Have your qualifications, licences and certificates ready to send.
- Keep a list of referees with their current contact details.
- Know your notice period and be honest about your availability.
- If you're planning to move overseas, start preparing your documents before you receive a job offer. Passports, police clearances, qualification assessments and visa documents all take time.
- Reply to emails and phone calls promptly. Recruitment often moves quickly and delays can sometimes mean opportunities are missed.
- Preparation won't guarantee you'll get every job. But it will ensure you're ready when the right opportunity comes along.
And here's the part we never want you to forget. Not every closed door is a failure. Sometimes it's simply leading you towards the place where you'll grow, flourish and make the greatest impact
Keep preparing. Keep learning. Keep believing. Your next opportunity could be closer than you think.
From all of us at KoruTalent, we're cheering you on every step of the journey.
